Our Story

A house for healing.
A home for Hilot.

Bahay Hilom was founded in Honolulu to preserve a living Filipino healing tradition, prepare responsible practitioners, and create a place where culture and practice remain connected.

WHY BAHAY HILOM EXISTS

Remembered.
Practiced. Protected.

Bahay means house. Hilom means healing. The name is both our identity and our commitment: to create a home where ancestral knowledge can be learned in relationship.

Hilot is often reduced to massage or technique. We teach it as a wider Filipino healing system, one shaped by observation, touch, discernment, cultural memory, ethics, responsibility, and care.

Our work welcomes Filipinos returning to ancestral knowledge and respectful non-Filipino students who understand that learning across cultures requires humility, attribution, and accountability.

02

Relationship before technique

03

FOUNDERS

Dr. Zanny Morales and Dr. Darcie Pulawa-Morales

“We are not simply teaching Hilot, we are preparing the next generation to carry the lineage with skill, humility, and integrity.”

What others are saying

"This Hilot Binabaylan training was a profound ancestral healing experience that felt like a true spiritual homecoming."

Under the guidance of Darcie, Zanny, and Apu Adman, we didn’t just learn Hilot. We restored lineage, healed together, and became family through shared ritual, movement, song, and deep emotional release. Harvesting medicine in the mountains and creating our own ancestral oils was a sacred act of remembrance, grounding us in the wisdom of the land and the strength of our ancestors. Sharing this work with the Filipino community and the Philippine Consulate reminded us why cultural healing and preservation matter now more than ever. This training didn’t just change my understanding of healing, it changed my life.

"The retreat transformed me by helping me find the confidence and clarity to step fully into my role as a Binabaylan."

I was missing a deeper connection and understanding of my ancestral path. The retreat helped me bridge the gap by strengthening my relationship with indigenous healing traditions, my spiritual guides, and my purpose of serving others through hilot.

- Maka P.

Makawao, Maui

"I thought I was coming home to learn more about where I came from. Instead, Hilot helped me remember that some of what I was searching for had been with me all along."

After living on the mainland for more than 27 years, I returned home to Hawaiʻi in 2024 with the intention of reconnecting with my roots.

I entered the cohort with an open mind and an open heart, not realizing how deeply personal the experience would become.

As the days of training unfolded, memories of my mother began returning to me. I suddenly recognized that many of the practices she used with us as children were forms of Hilot.

I was—and still am—amazed by what surfaced for me during the training.

Hilot Binabaylan became more than something I was learning. It became a remembering.

I came away feeling a sense of peace that I had not felt before. The training has also helped me become clearer and more focused on my goals and on the healing work I am being called to create.
